The Role of Blood Vessels in Erectile Function

Erection is a vascular event that depends heavily on healthy blood circulation. During sexual stimulation, the arteries supplying the penis widen and allow increased blood flow into erectile tissues.

These tissues, known as the corpora cavernosa, expand as they fill with blood. At the same time, veins that normally drain blood from the penis become compressed, allowing the erection to be maintained.

Any condition that interferes with blood flow can impair this process. Cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and atherosclerosis are common contributors.

A common disorder related to these conditions is Erectile Dysfunction.

Treatment options may include medications, lifestyle modifications, or medical therapy depending on the underlying erotic cause.
